Design and Build Quality

Compact and Lightweight Design

The Viltrox 9mm f/2.8 Air Lens features a compact design that makes it easy to carry. It fits well into a lightweight camera kit. Therefore, you can take it on trips, outdoor shoots and everyday photo walks.

Additionally, its small size makes it useful for creators who want an ultra-wide view without adding much weight to their setup.

Built for Everyday Photography

The lens suits a range of shooting situations. For example, you can use it to photograph city streets, buildings, interiors and open landscapes. Its ultra-wide perspective also lets you experiment with creative compositions.

Performance

Ultra-Wide 9mm Focal Length

The 9mm focal length captures a very wide view. As a result, it works well for scenes where you cannot step farther back. It is especially useful for landscape photography, architecture and indoor spaces.

Moreover, the wide perspective can add a strong sense of depth to your images. You can place a subject in the foreground and include more of the surrounding scene.

Bright f/2.8 Maximum Aperture

The f/2.8 maximum aperture lets more light reach the camera sensor than a slower aperture would. Consequently, it gives you more flexibility when shooting indoors or in dim conditions.

It can also help you maintain practical shutter speeds in changing light. However, your results will depend on the camera, exposure settings and available light.

Convenient Autofocus

Autofocus helps you capture subjects without adjusting focus manually for every shot. This makes the lens suitable for everyday photography and content creation.

Furthermore, autofocus can make it easier to switch between subjects while shooting. Actual autofocus features and performance depend on your camera body and the specific lens mount.

Features of the Viltrox 9mm f/2.8 Air Lens

Advanced Optical Design

The lens uses 13 elements in 11 groups. This design includes three ED elements, three high-refractive-index elements and two aspherical elements. Together, they help control colour fringing and distortion while supporting clear, detailed images.

Wide 113.8° Field of View

The 113.8° angle of view lets you capture more of your surroundings. Therefore, the lens works well for sweeping landscapes, tight interiors, architecture and immersive video.

Close-Focusing Capability

With a minimum focusing distance of just 0.13 metres, the lens lets you get close to your subject. As a result, you can create images with a strong foreground and an expansive background. It is also useful for creative close-up shots.

Smooth Video Performance

The STM autofocus motor supports smooth and quiet focusing. In addition, minimal focus breathing helps maintain a more consistent view when you change focus during video recording.

Connectivity and Compatibility

Compatible Camera Mounts

The Viltrox 9mm f/2.8 Air Lens is available in three mount options:

• Sony E-mount: For compatible Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras.

• Fujifilm X-mount: For compatible Fujifilm X-series cameras.

• Nikon Z-mount: For compatible Nikon Z-series APS-C cameras.

Before purchasing, check that you select the correct mount for your camera. The lens is designed for APS-C sensors, so check your camera's sensor format and compatibility before ordering.

Filter Thread and Firmware Updates

The lens has a standard 58mm filter thread, allowing you to use compatible filters. Furthermore, its USB-C port supports firmware updates, helping you keep the lens software up to date.

Battery and Power

Powered by Your Camera

The Viltrox 9mm f/2.8 Air Lens does not require a separate battery. Instead, its autofocus system draws power from the compatible camera body.

Therefore, you can use the lens as part of your regular camera setup without carrying an additional lens battery. Your camera's battery life will depend on its model and how you shoot.
