Product Introduction

The Samyang Cine AF 100mm T2.3 Lens is designed for filmmakers and content creators who want cinematic results with a compact setup. It features a 100mm focal length, a bright T2.3 transmission rating, and a Sony E-mount connection. Moreover, its full-frame coverage makes it suitable for compatible Sony full-frame cameras.

Part of the Samyang V-AF series, this lens combines autofocus convenience with features made for video production. Therefore, it is a useful choice for portrait videos, interviews, close-up shots, and creative storytelling.

Design and Build Quality

Compact and Lightweight Cine Lens

The Samyang Cine AF 100mm T2.3 Lens features a compact design that suits modern video setups. It weighs approximately 280g, so it is easy to carry during shoots. In addition, its lightweight body works well with gimbals and other compact camera rigs.

The lens has a 58mm filter thread. As a result, you can use compatible filters to manage reflections, control light, or create a specific visual style.

Convenient Controls for Filmmakers

The lens includes a focus control button and an M1/M2 switch. These controls help users access supported focus and aperture functions. Furthermore, the lens features tally lamps that show recording status, making it easier to check recording activity during a shoot.

Performance

100mm Focal Length for Cinematic Shots

The 100mm focal length provides a narrow field of view that helps isolate subjects from their surroundings. Because of this, the lens works well for portraits, interviews, product videos, and detailed close-up compositions.

Moreover, its 25.4-degree angle of view on full-frame cameras creates a focused perspective. This makes it easier to highlight a subject while keeping distracting background elements outside the frame.

T2.3 for Low-Light Video

The Samyang Cine AF 100mm T2.3 Lens offers a maximum T-stop of T2.3. This allows a good amount of light to reach the sensor, helping filmmakers work in controlled indoor lighting and other challenging conditions.

Additionally, the nine-blade iris helps produce smooth background blur. Consequently, subjects can stand out against soft backgrounds, giving portraits and cinematic scenes a more polished look.

Reliable Autofocus for Video

Autofocus helps filmmakers maintain sharp subjects without making every adjustment manually. This is useful when recording interviews, creating social media content, or working on small productions. However, autofocus performance also depends on the camera body, settings, and shooting conditions.

Key Features of the Samyang Cine AF 100mm T2.3 Lens

Full-Frame Sony E-Mount Compatibility

The lens uses the Sony E-mount and supports full-frame coverage. Therefore, it can be used with compatible Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. It can also work on compatible APS-C Sony E-mount bodies, where the field of view becomes narrower.

Smooth and Natural Background Blur

The nine-blade iris helps create soft background blur. In addition, the 100mm focal length supports subject separation when you have enough space between the camera and your subject.

Close-Focusing Capability

The minimum focusing distance is approximately 0.7m. This lets you capture detailed shots of people, objects, and products without needing to move too far away. As a result, the lens can support a range of creative filming styles.

Connectivity and Compatibility

Sony E-Mount Camera Support

The Samyang Cine AF 100mm T2.3 Lens is designed for Sony E-mount cameras. Its full-frame image circle makes it suitable for compatible Sony full-frame bodies.

Before purchasing, check your camera's mount and autofocus compatibility. Additionally, keep your lens firmware updated to support compatible camera bodies and improve operation where updates are available. Samyang provides product manuals and firmware through its official support page.

Battery and Power

Powered Through the Camera

The lens does not require a separate battery. Instead, its electronic functions draw power from the compatible camera body.

Therefore, you can use the lens without carrying an extra lens battery or charger. However, autofocus and other electronic functions may affect overall camera battery life, depending on your recording setup.

Ideal Uses

Portraits and Interviews

The 100mm focal length is useful for tightly framed portraits and interviews. Moreover, the T2.3 rating helps create a shallow depth of field when shooting conditions allow.

Films and Commercial Videos

The compact design makes this lens suitable for independent filmmaking, branded content, and commercial video work. In addition, its autofocus support can simplify filming when you work with a small crew.

Product Videos and Creative Content

Use the lens to highlight product details, capture close-up scenes, or create focused compositions. Consequently, it can be a useful option for creators who need a dedicated telephoto lens for video.

Final Conclusion

The Samyang Cine AF 100mm T2.3 Lens combines a compact body, a 100mm focal length, T2.3 light transmission, and Sony E-mount compatibility. Moreover, its autofocus support and video-focused controls make it a practical option for filmmakers and content creators.

If you shoot portraits, interviews, product videos, or cinematic scenes, this lens offers a useful combination of portability and creative control. Check your camera compatibility before purchasing to get the best results from your setup.
